Mysore Palace (Palace of Maharajah) - the most attractive monument, is located in the heart of Mysore city at Mirza Road, is one of the largest palaces in India. This palace is also known as "Amba Vilas", was the residence of the Wodeyar Mahararaja's of the Mysore state. The original Mysore palace was built of wood. But in 1897, the original palace got burnt down and it was re-constructed in 1912 for the twenty fourth Wodeyar Raja (King), designed by the well-known British architect, Henry Irwin, in Indo-Saracenic style. The new constructed palace is a house of treasure of exquisite carvings and art works from all over the world. September to October, especially during Dusshera, is the best time to visit Mysore Palace. The timings are 6:00am to 9:00am and 3:30pm to 6:30pm. On Sundays, National holidays and on festivals the palace opens from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
